Freedom Summer Comparisons with Era of Reconstruction

Freedom Summer comparisons with Era of Reconstruction With the end of the Civil war, many blacks felt that they would start reaping the benefits that had been denied from them for years. Being able to vote, own land, have a voice in political affairs were all goals that they felt were reachable. The era of Reconstruction was the miracle they had been searching for. But the South wasnt going down without a fight and blacks would have to wait at least 100 years for Freedom Summer to arrive to receive the miracle they wanted. 100 years it took for equality to become more than just a word but a way of life for blacks. But they did enjoy some privileges that werent available to them. Voting is one thing that was still around†¦show more content†¦Some say it served its purpose while others disagree. To me Freedom Summer and the Era of Reconstruction are two parts of the same story: white superiority over any race they felt was inferior. Would Freedom Summer have been as big as it was had it been three black guys instead of two white and one black? One could agree with that. The fact of the matter is this: the South wasnt going to change for nobody. If it meant dragging the entire country down with them, so be it. They were not going to change hundreds of years of history and a way of life just because the federal government and civil rights protesters said otherwise. So what if they killed hundreds of people and destroyed thousands of lives, to them it was well worth it. The Era of Reconstruction and Freedom Summer paved the way for other blacks and minorities to continue fighting the fight for equality; a fight that we are still fighting amongst ourselvesShow MoreRelatedCauses Of The American Civil War1769 Words   |  8 Pagesdecision, the Missouri Compromise, and the Kansas Nebraska Act were all causes of the Civil War. The Reality Of American Marriage - 957 Words

What would happen to society if marriage completely disappeared from American culture? Many would consider this an absurd and illogical question at first hearing. After some thought, one may begin to contemplate the reality of American marriage and realize what it has become. Some would agree that marriage is certainly not what it used to be in past generations and has dramatically changed from what it was, even just a few decades ago. The article from â€Å"The National Marriage Project† discusses the changes happening in American marriages and families today, the reasons why those changes are occurring, and the impact those changes have on individuals, groups, and the American society as a whole. Although the future of American marriage is somewhat unclear, the major changes of marriages and the family are clear specifically of America’s view on marriage, divorce, unmarried cohabitation, and non-marital childbearing. The first major change of America’s view on marriage and the family is the concept of marriage itself. In today’s â€Å"Middle America,† marriage rates are declining rapidly in what is termed the â€Å"moderately educated middle† which is described by the research as those who have graduated from high school but not college. Those in this class are less likely to get and stay married than their peers who have a college degree. We will write a custom essay sample on What extent did the American Revolution fundamentally change the American society or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Women’s rights Political: BCEI Social: ADGHJ Economic:FG Long since the American Revolution had taken place, the American society was thoroughly influenced in different aspects, mainly politically, socially and economically. Nearly every aspect of American life was somehow touched by the revolutionary spirit. From slavery to women’s rights, from religious life to political life, American attitudes were forever changed. The most apparent influence of the American Revolution is that it caused the relationship between Britain and American forever broken. The theory of nationalism thus emerged as a result in every American’s mind, and thus drove them to realize a brand-new thought that was totally different from the constitutional monarchy in Britain-republicanism. Just as was said in the Philadelphia Packet in 1779, â€Å"Instantly banish every Tory from among you†, â€Å"Drive far from you every baneful wretch who wishes to see you fettered with the chains of tyranny. Send them to the island of Britain. † It is not hard to imagine how radically the Americans were thinking about getting rid of the crown for good. Furthermore, the change in the way of thinking had also influenced the social standards in the American society. One of these new beliefs that occur is egalitarianism, which is the belief in the equality of people. During the Revolutionary War, wealhy military men had respected and joined forces with pverty sticken men who were also fighting for the colonist’s cause. After the war, the thought that no matter what your financial background was, but how hard you worked, was beginning to be more popular. However, a consistent fact is that slaves and native Americans were still looked upon to be property and savages, respectively. According to Article 6th of the Ordinance of 1787, â€Å"from whom labor or service is lawfully claimed in any one of the original states, such fugitive may be lawfully reclaimed and conveyed to the person claiming his or her labor or service as aforesaid. The social identity of slaves had not ungraded a bit even after the American Revolution, and so the issue of slavery had been avoided by both the North and the South on purpose, hoping to stick the issue to the status quo. Consequently, this would become one of the main reasons that triggered the Civil War few decades later. As for women, prior to the War they had no rights except to raise families, but they did gain little rights afterwards. Women gained the power to be able to divorce their husbands if they chosen to, something they never couldn’t have imagined before. Moreover, independent thinking occurred among some women, especially those well-educated ones. â€Å"No one will pretend to deny that we should be taught to read in the best manner. And if to be taught, why not to speak? †, quoting Molly Wallace, in the valedictory address for Young Ladies’ Academy of Philadelphia in 1792. The eagerness to express independent views and gain equal rights and opportunities with men drove women to higher education and broader way of thinking the new American society.

Listening to Music free essay sample

It was also shown that when a student listens to music while studying they are working both sides of the brain and that causes or a deeper thought, memorization, and attention. I chose this topic because my sister and I continuously disagree about whether or not may listen to music while I study. I always tell her; there is information out there that proves that when you listen to music your attention span rises, your memorization becomes clearer and there is a deeper thought behind what you are reading or doing.Listening to music involves multitasking, which leads to slow mental processing, which leads to better memorization, and memorization is a key part of successful studying. If oh are anything like my sister, you may think music is a distraction, but it is actually a helper. Maguire University Professor William Forded Thompson and his team conducted an experiment in which they asked students to read a passage of text while listening to Mozart piano sonata. We will write a custom essay sample on Listening to Music or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The music was altered to be soft or loud, fast or slow. What was the result?Students who read while listening to soft slow music performed better in the study. But what about in real life? If you are not listening to Mozart, are there still benefits to listening to music while you study? To help show that there is, I seed a close friend to explain how music is beneficial to her. Jamie Pinpoint, Junior at Murray High School, who enjoys music genres like Electronic and Folk Rock, had this to say in response to some questions. Asked if she listened to music while she studied. Pinpoint replied with a Yes, I always listen to music whether Im doing homework or studying. I then asked, How does it help you? Pinpoint responded with Music keeps me motivated and awake. It gives me something to keep pace with, something to follow. Obviously, Jamie and I see eye to eye, although we listen to different genres of music. However, as they say, there are always two sides to every story. For every published article or study proving that listening to music is beneficial, there is one proving that it is not. If you were to ask Los Angels Times writer Alone Dawson about her thoughts on the subject, she might answer with a question Does it seem too good to be true? (Dawson, 201 2) Dawson asks this in an article she wrote about the advertised benefits, in contrast to the actual benefits, of skin care products. While this paper is not about cosmetics, Dawson illustrates the importance of looking at all of the information available while researching a specific topic. For example, in an experiment done by researchers at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in the United Kingdom, 25 people between the ages of 18-30 would try to memorize and recall a list of letters in order after listening to different sounds.During this study, they found that the participants performed worse while listening to music. They say that music is a cognitive disruptor resulting in confusion and causing the participants to get thrown off by the changing in words. (CNN, 2010) While this study may appear to support my sisters pinion on the matter, it is important to point out that the participants preference in music was not considered. I might have even failed this experiment if had to listen to my least favorite genre of music, which is Country, as opposed to my favorite genre of music, Rock.So let us talk abo ut Rock since it is specific to my argument. In 2006 Scottish researchers reported that in addition to classical music, music by the likes of Jim Hendrix, AC/DC and Red Hot Chili Peppers also helped students concentrate and boost memory. In the study published, two groups of people Were asked to perform a memory test while listening to rock music and classical music. While the classical music improved the concentration and memory of both groups, rock music also had a significant effect on the cognitive performance of the rock fan.Brain scans revealed that they required far less brainpower to complete the test successfully. (Times, 2006) It is important to note that the benefits of listening to Rock music in the above example were specific to those participants that consider themselves Rock fans. This strongly supports the argument that since I am listening to the kind f music like, it is not serving as a distraction to my studies. Even if my studies were being compromised, there is plenty of evidence to support it may be the result of issues not related to act of listening to music while studying. Music can help with academic success. Poor grades do not automatically reflect poor intelligence; they are often an outcome of lack of interest and lack of motivation in studying. (How does music affect the brain? , 2012) As we look at some of the householders today their grades are slipping lower and lower, but as this book illustrates grades do not reflect poor intelligence, just a lack in interest in the subject. This also illustrates that music helps with your memorization. In addition, music with stronger beats causes brain waves to resonate in such a way that is coordinated with the music. This brings about higher levels of alertness and concentration. Music in some ways can be and is very creative. This is also something music helps with. Bringing imagination and creativity into the equation will show that music promotes academic success. Scientists conducted a series of studies in the sass examining the influence of music on memory recall. The research supported the positive effects of background music when studying. The research also suggested that music, especially classical music, heightened arousal and mood, as it reduced blood pressure, heartbeat and stress. (Network, 2011) As this quote from the university of Phoenix shows, music has a positive effect on your mood and stress. When you are studying, you typically are stressed, and when you are stressed, you become unmotivated on doing your work, unmotivated for studying when the time comes and it needs to happen. The scientists drew a link between memory recall to musical tempo.A tempo of 60 beats per minute activates the right hemisphere of the brain, while the material being studied activates the left hemisphere of the brain. With both hemispheres activated, the brain can process information more efficiently. (Network, 201 1) As another portion of study from the University of Phoenix, the professors concluded that the brain focuses on patterns. Some genres have a set and specific structure that repeats, and that some music genres that have too many repeated sections become distracting which in turn causes the urge to not study or do any sort of work.As have thought more and more about this, I have come up with the some questions that need to be answered. How does music affect you? How does it effectuate emotions and your productivity? Does Music help your body in anyway? Music affects you in a multitude of ways and some of them include; when listening to music it reduces your blood pressu re that helps calm you down, it is also a stress aid. Music also helps you concentration and attention when you are studying, it gives you a beat to follow, something to give you a pace to keep when studying.

About Arata Isozaki, Architect of Japanese New Wave Arata Isozaki (born July 23, 1931 in Oita, Kyushu, Japan) has   been called emperor of Japanese architecture and an engineer of controversy.   Some say he is Japans guerrilla architect for defying conventions, challenging the status quo, and refusing to establish a brand or architectural look. Japanese architect Arata Isozaki is known for using bold, exaggerated forms and inventive detailing. Born and educated in Japan, Arata Isozaki often integrates Eastern ideas into his designs. For example, in 1990 Isozaki wanted to express a yin-yang theory of positive and negative space when he designed the Team Disney Building in Orlando, Florida. Also, because the offices were to be used by time-conscious executives, he wanted the architecture to make a statement about time. Serving as offices for the Walt Disney Corporation, the Team Disney Building is a startling postmodern landmark on the otherwise barren stretch of Floridas Route I-4. The oddly looped gateway suggests gigantic Mickey Mouse ears. At the buildings core, a 120-foot sphere forms the worlds largest sundial. Inside the sphere is a serene Japanese rock garden. Isozakis Team Disney design won a prestigious National Honor Award from the AIA in 1992. In 1986, Isozaki was awarded the prestigious Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Education and Professional Accomplishments Arata Isozaki studied at the University of Tokyo, graduating in 1954 from the Department of Architecture in the Faculty of Engineering. In 1946, noted Japanese architect Kenzo Tange (1913–2005) had organized what became known as the Tange Laboratory at the University. When Tange received the 1987 Pritzker Prize, the jury citation acknowledged Tange to be an inspiring teacher and noted that Arata Isozaki was one of the well-known architects who studied with him. Isozaki honed his own ideas about Postmodernism with Tange. After school, Isozaki continued an apprenticeship with Tange for nine years before establishing his own firm in 1963, Arata Isozaki Associates. Isozakis first commissions were public buildings for his hometown. The Oita Medical Center (1960), the 1966 Oita Prefectural Library (now an art plaza), and the Fukuoka Sogo Bank, Oita Branch (1967) were experiments in concrete cubes and Metabolist concepts. The Gunma Museum of Modern Art (1974) in Takasaki City was a more high-profile and refined example of his previous work- stacked concrete cubes- and the beginning of his museum architecture commissions. His first US commission was in Los Angeles, California, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in 1986, which led Isozaki to become one of Walt Disneys architects. His design for the Team Disney Building in Orlando, Florida (1990) put him on Americas Postmodernist map. Arata Isozaki is known for using bold, exaggerated forms and inventive detailing. The Art Tower Mito (ATM) in Ibaraki, Japan (1990) bears this out. An otherwise subdued, low-level arts complex has at its center a shiny, metallic array of triangles and tetrahedrons rising over 300 feet as an observation deck to the cultural buildings and the Japanese landscape. Other notable buildings designed by Arata Isozaki Associates include the Sports Hall, Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, Spain (1992); Kyoto Concert Hall in Japan (1995); Domus Museum of Mankind in La Coruà ±a, Spain (1995); the Nara Convention Center (Nara Centennial Hall), Nara, Japan (1999); and the Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar (2003). In Chinas 21st century building boom, Isozaki has designed the Shenzhen Cultural Center (2005), the Hezheng Museum of Natural History (2008), and with Yasushisa Toyota hes finished Shanghai Symphony Hall (2014). Well into his 80s, Arata Isozaki took on the CityLife Project in Milan, Italy. Along with Italian architect Andrea Maffei, Isozaki completed the Allianz Tower in 2015. With 50 floors above the ground, the Allianz is one of the tallest structures in all of Italy. The modern skyscraper is stabilized by four buttresses. It was possible to use more traditional techniques, Maffei told designboom.com, but we preferred to emphasize the mechanics of the skyscraper, leaving them exposed and emphasizing them with a gold color. New Wave Styles Many critics have identified Arata Isozaki with the movement known as Metabolism. More often, Isozaki is seen as the catalyst behind the imaginative, Japanese New Wave architecture. Beautifully detailed and composed, often conceptually powerful, the buildings typical of this avant-garde group are strongly single-minded, writes Joseph Giovannini in The New York Times. The critic goes on to describe the design of MOCA: Pyramids of various sizes serve as skylights; a half-cylinder barrel roof covers the library; the main forms are cubic. The galleries themselves have a visual stillness about them that is particularly Japanese....Not since the French architectural visionaries of the 18th century has an architect used solid geometric volumes with such clarity and purity, and never with his sense of playfulness. - Joseph Giovannini, 1986 Learn More Arata Isozaki by Arata Isozaki and Ken Tadashi Oshima, Phaidon, 2009Japan-ness in Architecture, essays by Arata Isozaki, MIT Press, 2006The Museum of Modern Art, Gunma by Arata Isozaki, Phaidon, 1996New Wave Japanese Architecture by Kisho Kurokawa, Wiley, 1993 Sources: Metropolitan Museum of Art; Modern Architecture by Kenneth Frampton, 3rd ed., TH 1992, pp. 283-284; Arata Isozaki: From Japan, A New Wave of International Architects by Joseph Giovannini, The New York Times, August 17, 1986 [accessed June 17, 2015]; Interview with Andrea Maffei on the Realization of Milans Allianz Tower by philip stevens, designboom, November 3, 2015 [accessed July 12, 2017] [IMAGE CREDIT]

Business Outreach program - Anaytical report Research Proposal

Business Outreach program - Anaytical report - Research Proposal Example The American Housing Family is an organization that deals with equipping homeless and low-income individuals and families, providing permanent affordable housing, and improving their lives to become self-supporting members of the society. Even though this project is of great help to the homeless and the less fortunate, the issue of ventilation standards is a major matter to the peoples’ health. Poor ventilation standards result inthe risk of easily conducting dangerous diseases like asthma. A research that was done in 2009 showed that above 50% of homeless people had at least one respiratory manifestation. Another publication on Building and Environment in 2012 showed that improvement in air conditioning reduces the risk of asthma symptoms to the residents. Companies who engage in such projects not only stand a chance to fame but also grow economically and socially. Deploying the HVAC by Solaris to the American Housing Family will boost Solaris growth and also Products’ recognition globally. Solaris will also gain the merit of quality product trust at little or no cost which is the main weapon to success. Many companies strive and use a lot of their resources while trying to gain customers trust with their products. â€Å"Joining the society contributes to an atmosphere of integrity, social awareness, and excellence† (Tichy, McGill, & St. Clair, 1997, p. 173). Our group chose The American Housing Family for the Outreach Program due to the fact that they have local shelters in OC County and have different types of housing. They have wide recognitions globally and reputations for awards. Solaris deploying community services to the American Housing Family will improve on global recognitions, social and economic

The Internet and the Music Industry Essay Example for Free

The Internet and the Music Industry Essay The internet and the music industry are in a lot of conflict with each other due to the associated copyright and piracy issues.   Recorded music created by several artists can be accessed over the internet free of cost.   This has simply resulted in several changes as to the ways in which music is created and delivered.   The public has great access to the internet and is also a very convenient mean to help disseminate music.   However, copyright laws are an instrument which needs to be utilized more effectively to transmit music.    The main objective of copyright is to reward the creator for his/her work and make the work more accessible to customers, rather than to act as a hindrance to effective distribution of music.   However, with respect to copyright and the distribution of music over the internet, there are two issues or concerns:- There are issues regarding the cost of transactions and payment over the internet.   A single piece of work would involve two separate works which are individually copyright-protected.   This includes the musical work and the second includes the sound recording.   The musical work includes the musical notes and the words.   A sound recording on the other hand is the fixation of sound and could be a performance of a musical work.   When the recorded musical performance is transmitted over the internet, both the musical work and the sound recording are transmitted.   According to copyright laws, various rights and limitations are present with relation to musical work and sound recording.   This makes copyright issues application very difficult with relation to the internet. There may be several copyright exemptions and compulsory licenses given by the government for musical works.   This is to encourage dissemination of music.   However, using the internet to download music would mean that frequently the owners of the musical performance (including the musical work and the sound recording) are usually not contacted.   This makes the process of providing licenses and exemptions by the government as completely null and void.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The owner of the musical work and the sound recording would have certain rights to reproduction and public performance.   The owner of the musical work can:- Make copies or reproductions of the musical work Make licenses available to other parties Can give permission to public performance The owner of the sound recording can:- Make copies or reproductions of the sound recording Cannot provide compulsory licenses to other parties Limited right to public performance   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Many people feel that copyrights are becoming more and more unenforceable due to the internet.   The internet has made imposing intellectual property rights very difficult indeed.   However, some other people feel that the law is unable to meet the demands of technology currently, and within a short period of time it would be able to control the flow of music over the internet.   The Napster case is a classical example of how technology can overcome copyright justification.   However, sooner or later there would be return addressed in some way.   In the Napster case, the service provider Napster had a web service that permitted music to be swapped.   People were able to connect to each other and share and distribute music.   Several music artists began to sue Napster for alleging infringing their copyrights by distributing their music illegally. However, Napster said that it was not storing the music files in its servers, but rather the music lovers were doing so.   Napster was merely acting as a connecting media between the peers, and was only encouraging peer-to-peer exchanges, rather than making an attempt to infringe the copyright of the artists.   Napster said that if it had a centralized structure and stored the music on a central server, it would be infringing upon the rights of the artists by encouraging illegal distribution of music.   The beginning of the digital age meant that copyrights began to be overlooked, disrespected and often abused. One of the landmark cases in this regard was the Sony Corporation case, which ensured that copying could be performed.   In this case, Sony Corporation developed the video cassette recorder and marketed its product.   Several parties who felt that Sony’s VCR would be infringing upon their copyright filed laws suits against the company alleging contributory infringement of their copyrights (Sony helped the people to enable copying of copyright protected videos).   However, Sony gave the justification that the VCR use was mainly for time shifting rather than infringing on the Copyrights of the artists.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Today there is very poor ethics and morals regarding the need to protect the copyrights of the true owners.   Greater amount of public awareness and educational processes need to be conducted to ensure that people are aware of the need to protect copyrights.   Internet service providers are not merely peer-to-peer distributers, but are acting as strong contributory infringers of copyrights.   The legal processes should be made more stringent to ensure that internet service providers do not develop the justifications to enable illegal and mass transfer of music over the internet.   Other people feel that technology could itself be utilized as a protective mechanism to help prevent privacy and illegal transmission of music over the internet. One of these mechanisms has been encryption, which effectively helps to encode and decode music whilst transferring it over the internet.   Hackers may not only be attacking websites and servers but also clients who store music on their systems.   Another technological device to help protect copyrights has been the Digital Rights management system (DRMS).   This system helps to permit only limit copying and any excessive copying would be prevented.    The user would also have to use a key in the form of a password to gain access to the system.   With time, more and more advanced systems are coming up which could help prevent excessive copying of music over the internet.   Other system that could help prevent piracy includes watermarking, permitting music listening on a pay basis, greater use of advertisements, etc.   THE WIPO to a certain extent has prevented excessive copying by developing a strong international policy and also ensuring proper enforcement of copyright laws in member nations.   Besides, music should be made more attractive to shop online.   The music artists should ensure stronger sale of adverstisements and shopping of music online. Inside the Mind of Shakespeares Macbeth :: GCSE English Literature Coursework

Inside the Mind of Macbeth   Some writers concern themselves with inward psychological processes. In these works the focus is the mind of the character and the decisions that he makes. The reader is concentrated on whether the character will make the right choice or the wrong choice. He can stay the same, or learn something about himself and change. In the play Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the mental processes of Macbeth to reveal and explore his character. Through the opinions that Macbeth possesses, the reader interprets his personality. Macbeth goes through many changes, each time gaining more and more evil. As the play progresses, he loses his soul and humanity. Macbeth is introduces into the play as a brave and loyal servant. He feels respect for his king and is willing to risk his life for him. At this point he is selfless and good. He, himself, is proud of his service to his king. It is when he is confronted by evil that he begins to doubt the true worth of his loyalty. As he is given honors he begins to gain pride. As a servant, a man must feel loyalty and respect for his master. With time, Macbeth steps over that line and begins to feel more pride in his accomplishments than pride in his service to his king. When confronted with the possibility that he might be king, Macbeth becomes selfish and self-serving. The witches give him the idea that there is a possibility that he could be great. Lady Macbeth persuades him that in order to be a true man he must assert his power. He is constantly fed with pride by the king and his peers. He would like to improve his own rank in society. Seeing that people trust in his command, he considers being king. Unable to control his intense pride and need to fulfill it, Macbeth decides to kill Duncan. The people around him, either by design or by accident, have convinced him of the idea. Macbeth believes that he deserves this power and decides that he will take it in his own way. He still holds some remorse for what he does, but goes through with killing Duncan anyway. It is after Duncan is killed, that the sinister Macbeth comes out. The new characteristic that is introduced is that Macbeth is very controlling. Macbeth still does not feel comfortable with his position.

My personality

In the beginning I had a hard time to composed myself and thinking about how to start this essay. Until I found myself searching for my pen and a pad of paper and started to write of things that I have done in my existence. Oftentimes I find myself staring at something I don’t even see. But I can see something more imaginative on the screen of my mind. But what do I really think of? I think of my family, friends, my girlfriends, and the people of my past and the people of my future. Later on when I get back to the real world, I realized how much time I have wasted. But later still I want to reminisce, and think again of many things, both pleasant and unpleasant. I realized that whether they are pleasant or unpleasant they are still worth thinking of. They don’t make any difference for they serve the same purpose in shaping me for what I am now. I was born from a Christian family and grew up with God-fearing and God-loving person. On this year Thanksgiving Day, I will be celebrating my 18th birthday. We are five in the family; I have a sister and a brother who are very supportive to me. My family is the epitome of prominence that gives me the thought of living a wonderful life for they are very understanding and always there for me no matter what. I have the reasons to be proud of my self because I have my family, my friends, and my girlfriend. I can sweep you off your feet with my debonair and gentlemanly ways, but hands off, single girls, I’m happily taken. You can just catch glimpses when I’m around. I’m actually sensible and quite perceptive. I am a very frank person but sometimes a smooth talker; I can make you believe that pigs have wings. However, I am a considerate person who possesses one of those smiles that make you forget all your troubles. My friends would tell me that I am a nice person. After all, if I weren’t nice, I won’t have many friends. A very hardworking person you can see in me and with high expectations to every people I meet. Despite my disposition, I can be easily approach. Some of you may see me in mid-stride, overwhelming with an air of super cool confidence but digging deeper into my persona, you will find that I am the 3’s: serious, sensitive, and sentimental. You should not base your judgment on your first impression because once you get to know me deeper; your first impression won’t last. I am most determined to be like my father or better than him, who like him is very responsible of his family. Who has a lovely wife; my mom, and wonderful three children. Soon as I got my bachelors degree, I will be handling one of the family’s businesses with the dignity to continue and make it bigger for a better future. In the hurry scurry of the everyday life, we still find time to reminisce our childhood years and that makes us smile. Life is full of beautiful things: soft sunsets, painted rainbows, delicate blossoms, love and laughter, quiet moments and good friends like I have. Friends everyone should have. They enjoys being with me, accepts me for who I am, and is faithful when the chips are down. We’ve gone through a lot of difficulties that friends usually going through but still we are together. We would travel jointly and have some fun. On weekends and whenever we feel to, we would play golf, or go skiing or yet get involve in fishing. You know when you are up, your friends know who you are and when you are down, you know who your friends are. We are like siblings and a family. 50 years from now, I’d be so old or else I might not be physically present here anymore. Whatever it may be, I might forget them, or might not remember ever knowing them or might forget that I once cared for them, I might but I won’t, because they are my friends whom I can let into the house when I am turning out drawers. Releted essay –  An Empty Purse Frightens Away Friends For one million memories, for one hundred thousand inside jokes, for ten thousand great times, for one hundred secrets there is only one reason: we are friends. A large part of my person was telling me to let go and choose the safe way out. My friends would tell me that wits rule over the idiocy of the heart. I believed them. The problem was that my soul seemed to have a mind of its own and refused to see reason. I used to be a player, a great player not until I met Christi. It was late Wednesday morning I was too busy listening to the radio when a friend invited me out. I went to the meeting place and grabbed a chair sat next to this beautiful girl. A little while, we were having a chat. I was star stricken and almost forgot that I was going to meet instead my good old friend. Later on, we became close. At times, he would join my friends and me for lunch or snack and she would then insist that I eat with her friends as well. One day, I just realized that i am falling in love with her. There are times that I think I was falling out of love. But whenever that happens, something would happen; someone would come along and tell things about her as if implying that she feels the same way too.   And somehow my dying feelings would be restored to life. She may seem to be the answer to all the prayers and wishes I have made for the last seventeen years of my existence-for me to find that someone who would manage to complete this weary soul and tame this heart who used to play with girls. I was then too scared to allow her to come into my life. I have suffered enough disappointments. I want the person I will give my heart and soul to would be worth all the pain and sacrifices. One night, as I sat in front of the altar, I was trying to recall everything that happened from the first time we talked up to the day we had watched a movie. I knew by the end of that day that she was the one. Hearing her talk about life, seeing how interested she was in what I had to say, my heart has finally found home. I like the way she value the people he love. I envy the way she would look certainly at life. I value the way she shows her concern not only to me but also to everyone she meets. She is the only girl I know who can manage to be composed under difficulty. And she wouldn’t judge nor preach, the way she just look at me straight in the eyed tell me in not so many words that she understand me completely and that her whole being is there to catch me when I fall. In short, I love her. I love her for the entire she is, for all that she stands for and believe in. she is worth every tear I have shed. I choose to love her through all the days of my life. I thank her for making me realized that life isn’t just about playing. I now understand what love is-Christi. They are the people who have always been my inspiration in living life to the fullest. My family, friends, and Christi motivated me and have molded me for what I am now. No life could be better than living it according to one’s desires with respect to success and good reputation. I don’t let the day passed without telling them that I care and love them. I always cherish the day with them. In developing my personality, I just don’t only need my whole self but the people around me have got something to do to of how I had grown up. And thanks to them that I know I am a better person now because of them. My life wouldn’t be as fulfilled as like now if not because of my determination to make up from my incomprehensible perplexity. There’s always a better outlook. Works Cited: â€Å"Essay Structure†. On Compassion

Annotated Bibliography â€Å"On Compassion† Ascher, Barbara. â€Å"On Compassion†. 5O Essays. Ed. Samuel Cohen. Boston: Bedford/St. Martin's, 2004. 35-38. Print. Barbara Ascher’s essay offers examples of everyday life in New York City to support her thoughts about compassion. She uses two different encounters to back up her arguments and points. The first encounter involved a woman, with a child, giving money to a homeless person as he starred at the precious child. Ascher questioned as to why the woman gave to the homeless. Was it fear or compassion that motivated the gift? The second encounter involved a homeless person coming into a cafe, smelling of cigarettes and urine and the owner rushing to hand the man a coffee and a bag of food. Twice Ascher has witnessed this and one argument made was, what compelled the woman to feed the man? Was it because of pity? Care? Compassion? As winter comes the mayor kicks all the homeless of the streets and into Bellevue Hosp ital. Ascher thinks that what the mayor is doing shows compassion, but another side of her fears it is because of â€Å"raw humanity offending our sensibilities†(38).She uses interesting words to basically describe how people don’t like to face reality and see how life really is. People just walk past the homeless, pretend nothing is wrong and life is perfect; forgetting about the other humans in rags, starving, and living day to day on the street and in parks. For most it wasn’t a lifestyle chosen, yet people only see what is right in front of their eyes; â€Å"An awareness of rags with voices that make no sense and scream in inarticulate rage†(38). Ascher believes and states that, â€Å"Compassion is not a character trait like sunny disposition. It must be learned, and it is learned by having adversity at our windows, coming through the gates of our yards, the walls of our towns, adversity that becomes so familiar that we begin to identify and empathize with it. †(38) Ascher then, compares the homeless to the Ancient Greeks, reminding us of our common humanity. In my opinion, I believe that the point of this essay was to speak to people through writing. Ascher made very good points about her beliefs on compassion. For example, how she believes compassion is learned and not just a character trait. I for one agree with her.Being compassionate is not something that you should describe yourself as, but more so an action of doing or giving without second-guessing, or thinking of it. It’s something you pick up as a child in your home and community and it grows on you, it becomes part of your identity. In Ascher’s essay she gets her point across with plenty of arguments to back it up. She uses encounters from everyday life so readers can see and understand where she is coming from. Ascher made me change how I see and think about compassion. That’s why she is such a great writer because the execution of her work is just excellent.

Free Essays on Stylistic Elements In Madame Bovary

There are many different stylistic elements used in the novel, â€Å"Madame Bovary,† written by Gustave Flaubert. The author uses several techniques such as detailed descriptions, symbolism, illusion vs. reality, and others. These techniques are important in analyzing the novel of Madame Bovary as a whole and in understanding the several themes and motifs. The first technique is that of symbolism. In the novel, Emma Bovary hears the melancholy song of a blind beggar just before he dies, and that beggar symbolizes the lack of insight that the main figures are known for in the book. Charles’ character could also be considered blind; he is blind to Emma's unhappiness and her unfaithfulness to him. He still refuses to accept the reality of the situation in all its truth, even when he uncovers Rodolphe's and Leon's letters towards the end of the novel. Emma herself does not realize her own self-deceiving view of life or the way others deceive her. She sees her lovers as more ideal and better than they really are and also gets fooled by them. Furthermore, an example of an important symbol used in Madame Bovary is that of the windows. These windows help create the mood; for instance a closed window could symbolize the limitations of Emma’s marriage, and open windows could symbolize dreams and freedom. There are other important symbols in the novel, such as the dried wedding bouquets of Emma and Charles' first wife, as well as the blind beggar. In addition to this, most of the relationships in the novel are shown with an great lack of sensitivity, devotion and love. Even though Emma always dreams of romance, she is not a particularly loving person, and it seems as if she does not care much for other people in her life, even her own baby. We are Seven(Lyrical Ballads) Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

We are Seven(Lyrical Ballads) - Term Paper Example Wordsworth wrote the poem ‘we are seven’ at the age of 18 when he was going on a journey with his best companion Coleridge. ‘Wordsworth’s most deeply held conviction is his belief that the scope for poetry was often best provided by memory.’ As we also observe in this particular poem that the little girl that he talks about is actually someone he had met on his journey in a similar setting. As stated, ‘We Are Seven was inspired by a little girl he met in the area of Goodrich Castle.’ The poem comprises of sixteen four lined stanzas with the exception of the last stanza that consists of five lines. The rhyme scheme of the poem is ABAB. The poem is in the form of a conversation between a stranger and a little girl. The technique of writing the poem in a dialogue form enhances the beauty of the poem as it helps in retaining the interest of the reader, as he is curious about the end result of the conversation. The title of the poem hints about a sense of security that is related to the knowledge of having strong family bonding as observed from the word ‘We’. It has a tone of finality to it. The two letter word hold a lot of meaning as it also indicates the element of stubbornness and conviction of belief that nothing can change the reality i.e. we are seven. Number ‘seven’ can in itself be a reference to ‘Shakespeare’s seven stages’ of a man’s life as the readers later observes that this poem also draws a contrast between the perspective of life from the eyes of a child and an adult and shows the manner in which a person loses his idealism in order to grow up. The poem is basically about a conversation between a man and a little girl about her family and loved ones. The stranger inquires about her brothers and sisters and the girl replies that we are seven. This reply leads to the formation of the whole conversation that takes place in the poem.

English - Essay Example An architect has to be persistent with his audience and his ability to write will most likely ensure that he is able to provide useful reference material for those who are viewing his work. There are certain audiences or buyers who require an architect’s persistence in order to develop an interest in the design and a written description would go a long way in ensuring the development of this interest. It is therefore important that the architect maintains their writing skills at their level best so that when the occasion arises, they may be able to express their designs to their audience with little or no additional help other than the written materials they may have provided. It is, therefore, a fact that architects have to do their best to ensure that they have developed their writing skills to such an extent to being able to efficiently describe their designs. Therefore, by developing good writing skills, the architect will be able to anticipate the questions that his audie nce is likely to ask after making a presentation, and will be able to answer these questions effectively. It is therefore a fact that an architect who is also a good writer will be more efficient in his or her work. Furthermore, architects will be able to leave behind details concerning their designs that will be studied by future generations of architecture students. In this way, the architects with good writing skills, leaving behind their works to be studied, will ensure that this work will continue to influence the work of future architects for generations to come. Revision Paper Censorship is one of the major issues of concern of the 21st century and this is because the advancement of technology has led to a lot of development in the media, entertainment as well as the communication sectors. Therefore, the censorship act has been endorsed globally as it features in the constitution of almost every nation in the world. It prevents people from exposing materials that are morally considered to be perverse as well as sensitive to viewers. Censorship is the destruction of destructive, objectionable or inconveniencing information from reaching the public. In some countries, censorship is seen as a way of interfering with the citizens' right to free speech. This is because of the rights to democracy as well as the media’s right to independence; therefore, the media, individuals' conversations, films and music among others can be controlled. From my personal perspective, censorship has been interpreted as a way of preventing vital information from reaching the public. Ideally, the bodies giving censorship to books, films, and music, radios or television programs and artistic expression ensure that the information they think is unacceptable to the members of the public and threatens the social economic and political order of the state has been altered. Specific bodies like the government, religious body or even private groups are capable to impose censorshi p on artworks, film, music, and television and radio programs among others. Various forms of censorship exist namely, preventative which is done before publishing the

Training and Development Bachelor - Essay Example That was how it all started. The place did undergo some change towards the end of the second generation Hank's tenure. This was more out of necessity to survive, thrive and make it a source of living while facing intense competition from the mushroomed pizza corporate. They opened one more store in the town, introduced contemporary and extremely upbeat customer seating facilities; added washrooms modernized the kitchen with the state-of-art equipment, introduced computerization, and changed the lighting and created an ambience which is ideal for an excellent meal. The upgrade Hank's pizza store could give any pizza corporate outlet a run for its money. The third generation Hank joined the father after finishing an MBA. His first setout was a mission for the business. The mission is to be the first and the only eat out choice of the town and also expanded the number of outlets from two to six, business multiplied four times over a period of six years and there seemed no looking back for the Hank's pizza store. But still something bothered the junior most Hank and he constantly felt that there were losing out business to other pizza chains stores. Hank with his latest management knowledge did try and put an effort to figure out what was amiss with the business while managing the operations of the business. Good amount of time was spent balancing the cash books, ensuring there were no stock outs and creating innovative marketing plans to increase pitfalls and ensure return customers. But still there was something amiss. To identify the problem and find solution for it, Hank III hired a management consultant and gave a free rein to them to identify the problem. On studying Hank IIIs style of functioning, it became evident that Hank III was looking at the business from the operations perspective and not from the customers' perspective. The consultants deputed mystery customers to identify and rate customer experiences at various store locations. The consultants, after a four week study identified that the customers were comfortable going to a specific store and undertook focus group studies to identify the reasons thereof. (Keer ti) Focus Group Studies - What are they Focus group is a form of qualitative research. In this method of research a group of people are asked about a product of an idea from their individual perspective focusing on various attributes. (Wikipedia) A great deal of information can be achieved by conducting focus group studies. (Free Management Library) They came up with an astonishing fact which did not strike Hank III till then which was that the customer experiences were not uniform across the six stores and the expectations built at each store of the next possible experience was different and hence the strong customer location loyalty was being built which was good for an individual store but harmful overall to the business. To arrest this trend the consultants recommended that there be training department set up and train the different categories of staff so that the Hank's Pizza store delivered uniform customer experiences and WOW at all store locations and they identified the following training programs be conducted as a pre-cursive before embarking on a new marketing initiative. 1. How to Overcome the Fear of Public Speaking

How to Overcome the Fear of Public Speaking Introduction Majority of people get performance anxiety when they need to make a speech in front of the audiences. According to Lake (2015), seventy-five percent of the population suffers from the fear of public speaking. Over time, people will try to avoid participating in any speeches as they feel nervous while speaking. In fact, there are few ways to overcome the fear of public speaking which are organizing the presentation, breathing exercises, and practicing more. (NG CHAI YET) 1st point: Organizing the presentation The first way to overcome the fear of public speaking is by organizing the presentation (Golberg, 2016). There are several steps to organize the presentation. First of all, the speaker should understand the topic of the presentation and organize the information (Hall-Flavin, 2014). It is important to make sure that the information is correct, clear, and related to the topic in order to make fewer mistakes and not digress from the topic. The speaker should do research and get correct information from books, articles, journals and suitable website which are related to the topic. Secondly, the speaker can try to remember the arrangement of the speech (Martinuzzi, 2013). By remembering the arrangement, the organized information can help the speaker be more confident and remain in control during the presentation. For example, the speaker can use the presentation slides to help them remember the arrangement and reduce their fear of public speaking. Besides that, one of the reasons for the fear of public speaking is the speaker fear of receiving the questions (Martinuzzi, 2013). Before speaking in public, the speaker should prepare a list of potential questions from the audience (Martinuzzi, 2013). This can increase the speakers confidence reducing the fear of public speaking. In addition, another reason for the fear of public speaking is the anxiety that could cause the speaker to forget or disorganize the main points. Therefore, the speakers can make a cue card with the main points and ideas (Goldberg, 2016). However, the main point must be in point form and not in essay form. The cue card helps the speaker to avoid forgetting the main points and reduces their fear of giving a presentation on stage. In short, these steps in planning a presentation can help the speaker to be prepared for public speaking with a more confident and relaxed attitude. (MIMOSA TAN SIN YIE) 2nd point: Breathing exercises The fear of public speaking can be overcome and eliminated by learning breathing exercises. Breathing is a useful tool for relaxing and refreshing the mind as it is something that people are able to control and regulate. There are several methods for breathing exercises. Speaker can take the time to inhale and exhale before starting the speech(Weil, 2016). Taking a deep breath before start the speech can lower the speakers stress level and reduce anxiety. For example, stage fright can be a significant hurdle to the speaker that wanted to share the information with the audiences. Therefore, breathing can increase self-confidence and enhance the speakers voice to be louder. Moreover, try to breathe normally and comfortably when speaking too fast (Peters, 2010). Generally, people who are nervous will speed up their speaking instead of enunciating the sentences properly because they are trying to end the speech sooner. Focusing on breathing can not only calm the speaker but also a powerf ul relaxation technique for the speaker to continue the speech with better performance. Furthermore, pause and breathe between the points during the speechis another way to overcome the fear of speaking (Nuumburg, n.d). For instance, take a breath after an idea is given out and introducing another with few second later can rebuild the speakers confidence and undoubtedly, it can manage and release fear. In fact, it will also sustain the physical capacity for the speaker to talk for a long time. The benefits of breathing exercises are both physical and psychological. Thus, learning to breathe naturally the benefits will be enormous for reduce the fear when they having a speech. (RENEE TAN CHAI NI) 3rd point: Practice more The most common way the speaker can overcome the fear of public speaking is more practice. For practice public speaking, they have to understand their speaking material so that can prepare well to deliver the speak (Martinuzzi, 2013). Practice can help them to understand their speech but not memorize it. When practicing public speaking in the home, they can practice in front of the mirror (Sahay, 2016). This is the most effective way because it is able to help them to pay attention to their posture, gestures, movement and facial expressions. Gentle expressions will gain the audiences attention and they will concentrate to their speech. Moreover, they can record their speech by using a video camera and watching it in order to make corrections easily (Daniel K. Hall-Flavin, 2014). Furthermore, they can try practicing public speaking in front of an audience. Looking for an audience to evaluate to their performance. They can also join a club that can give them opportunities to speak in front of the audience, such as Toastmaster. Toastmaster is a communication and leadership development organization worldwide (Toastemasters International, n.d.) It is a great place for people to practice public speaking because the people who study with the program will give them valuable advice (Gray, n.d.). More practice with public speaking will help them gain more experience. Thus, they will feel more comfortable when speaking in front the audience and no fear. (ROSELIND KANG KAI QI) Conclusion In conclusion, public speaking is a form of communication to share ones thoughts to influence others. It is a need to everyone regardless for education or career purpose. Preparation is very important as good preparation can overcome ones fear and increase their confident level towards a success performance. People will be benefited by having several keys in their pocket to overcome the fear of public speaking. (NG CHAI YET) References Lake, R. (2015, April 28).
